honk.jpglambs.jpgFlying Fish directors Joe Lonie and Sam Kelly are both contenders in this evening’s (Dec 4) New Zealand Film Awards being held at the Wintergarden at the Civic Theatre. A third Fish compadré Lee Tamahori will also be joining the school on stage as he presents the award for ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Film’.

Lonie’s film – ‘Honk if you’re Horny’ has been nominated for ‘Best Script’, ‘Best Short’ & ‘StarNow Best Actor’ (for lead Andy Anderson). In this racy comedy about tall stories and erroneous assumptions, an enigmatic young musician becomes the captive audience for a crusty old cab driver’s hilarious dirty story on the taxi ride from hell.

Kelly’s Film Lambs is also up for three awards, ‘Best Script’, ‘Best Short’ and ‘StarNow Best Actor’ (for lead Waka Rowlands). Jimmy, a big-hearted fourteen year old boy, is facing a difficult decision – stay in his abusive home to protect his younger siblings, or leave to start a new life of his own.
