New World does something for New Zealand netball in latest commercial via Colenso BBDO

New-World-almost.jpgNew World is a huge supporter of New Zealand netball and main sponsor of the New Zealand Silver Ferns. And as such they’d do anything for netball, or perhaps more accurately, almost anything, as demonstrated in this new TVC out of Colenso BBDO.

Says Jules Lloyd, group brand director, Foodstuffs New Zealand: “This amusing and entertaining ad takes a unique yet genuine approach to celebrate our partnership through showcasing the things that we unfortunately couldn’t realistically do in-store to show our support for Netball.”

“It was a rare opportunity to actually execute all the ridiculous ideas we came up with, but which we knew New World couldn’t possibly do in the real world,” said Steve Cochran, executive creative director, Colenso BBDO. “This ad was as much fun to shoot as it looks.”

The spot was directed by Nick Ball from Finch as part of the recent New World experts campaign. It was shot over one very long night, using real New World staff and the Silver Ferns.

Once again New World staff provide some fantastic performances. But this time, they’re equalled by some very entertaining moments from the Silver Ferns.

Special mention must be made of Louis, the perfectly cast main character, who is a ‘Fruit and Vege Pro’ at New World in Waiuku.

“Things to look out for in the ad are a very real reaction from a Silver Fern captured when the watermelon prop got away on her and actually hit the camera. And a cameo appearance from ‘Lance’ from the New World’s Fruit and Vege Pro advert, who seems as mystified as ever when he’s presented with fruit in a Silver Fern uniform.” Says Lloyd.

The ad begins running on television and digital this week and will also play at up-coming Silver Ferns test matches. Fans at the games will also get to enjoy some half-time entertainment inspired by the TV spot.
