Sunday Punch directors thedownlowconcept’s new show ‘Coverband’ picked up in the US

CB-Cast  111[3].jpgthedownlowconcept, represented by Auckland based production company Sunday Punch, has sold its new television show ‘Coverband’ in America – even before it has aired in New Zealand.

Coverband, written and directed by thedownlowconcept, has been picked up by Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison and Sony Pictures Entertainment for a US adaptation of the series.

3DLCNew[2][1].jpgSays Doug Robinson, head of TV, Happy Madison: “Coverband is a fantastic show with a great mix of comedy and music. We are really excited to be working with thedownlowconcept on a stateside adaptation.”

thedownlowconcept director, Jarrod Holt, said he was excited about the deal.

Says Holt: “it’s just great that Happy Madison liked the show so much. Hopefully this sale will mean more people will watch our version here.”

The series starts this week on TV One, Thursday at 9:45pm. It follows the exploits of local band The Sillouhettes as they try and survive the cutthroat world of the covers scene. The band is made up of Johnny Barker (Shortland Street, Go Girls), Matt Whelan (Go Girls, My Wedding and Other Secrets), Wesley Dowdell (Outrageous Fortune, Super City) and in his first major television role the frontman of local band Kora, Laughton Kora.
