Branspank creates new work for SKY Television’s sci-fi, cult, horror and fantasy channel ‘The Zone’
The Zone is a newly launched general entertainment channel as part of SKY’s basic package available to all their customers, dedicated to serving avid fans of sci-fi, cult, horror and the fantasy genres.
After a competitive pitch, Brandspank were awarded the task of creating this new brand with the aim to represent the aspirations of the channel and resonate with an audience who, more than most, hold this category dear.
Fitting into a tight knit community of knowledgeable die-hards isn’t easy – Brandspank’s response was to stay true to the fans, produce a brand that’s anything but vanilla, and be known as a place of questioning. The concept of ‘new discoveries through questioning’, led to the creation of The Zone Doorway, an iconic graphic device that leads us throughout the brand to the content, the fans and the infinite beyond.
Says Karen Bieleski, head of general entertainment, SKY TV: “The consistency of Brandspank’s approach to all aspects of the channel’s branding has resulted in a look and feel for The Zone which is both distinctive and memorable, and which beautifully conveys the otherworldly yet sophisticated nature of our content.”
The Zone brand was rolled out by DDB with an OOH and digital campaign including billboards, street posters, bus backs and a NZ Herald homepage take over. These were heavily supported by a very active social media team at SKY and a targeted publicity campaign including a talent tour, outdoor stunt and premiums, all managed by SKY’s publicity team.
