Speight’s hunts for a spokesperson with a tinge of ginge for new campaign via DDB NZ
Speight’s has recruited the help of DDB to hunt for a spokesperson for Speight’s Ginger Beer, the newest and gingeriest innovation which launched on 1 October.
Suggestions from fans on the Speight’s Facebook page have helped to shape the audition brief for the new face and the casting director is specifically searching for ‘outstanding Kiwi red-headed talent’ to be featured in the advertising campaign.
A 30″ video by DDB, featured on the Speight’s Facebook page, shows the ginger-haired hopefuls as they prepare to audition. One face in particular seems familiar and a potential favourite until a Dunedin bloke, Ginger Bear, walks into the room and causes quite a stir.
Auditions are currently underway, but the casting director’s reaction suggests he already has a preferred frontrunner.
Says Chris Schofield, DDB creative director: “For Speight’s Ginger Beer, we’re gunning for a ginger bear as a frontman. There’s not much more to it than that. Except the bear’s fairly reluctant to take the gig, after being type-cast for years in similar roles.
“The humour we’re going for in the campaign is dry, to reflect the brilliantly dry taste in the product itself.”
The Speight’s Ginger Beer victor will feature in a series of online videos and billboards nationwide from early December.
