Angus Hennah joins Special Group NZ as creative director; Sandra Daniel joins as business director
Special Group has strengthened the senior line up in its Auckland office with the appointment of Angus Hennah as creative director and Sandra Daniel as business director.
Says Tony Bradbourne, creative partner, Special Group: “We have an amazing group of very smart and ambitious clients both in Auckland and Sydney who require very smart senior talent. Angus and Sandra have a proven track record separately and together, are very modern thinkers and are both very nice people. It’s just brilliant to have them in the group.”
Says Hennah: “I’m really looking forward to working with Tony and Rob, Matty and Dave and the whole team. Special has taken off both here and Australia. It’s an exciting time to come onboard a place with real momentum, and I’m sure my experience on both sides of the Tasman can be put to good use.”
Hennah was most recently ECD of Ogilvy NZ for more than two years, and ECD of JWT Auckland (and then Sydney) for more than six years. He has 10 years Australian experience and 10 years in New Zealand and is currently ranked as one of NZ’s top 10 ECDs and top 5 creatives on Campaign Brief’s Creative Rankings.
Previously Hennah worked at Clemenger Sydney then Clemenger Wellington where he created award-winning work for LTNZ and contributed creatively to the NZRU’s successful Rugby World Cup bid.
He has won numerous local and international awards including; Cannes Lions across film, cyber, outdoor and media categories, Grand & Gold Effies, and most recently, two D&AD pencils.
Daniel has 20 years advertising experience across both local and international markets and has an impressive depth of brand, retail and FMCG experience. She has worked at Clemenger BBDO, M&C Saatchi, Publicis Mojo and Ogilvy & Mather leading some of New Zealand’s best blue chip brands.
Daniel also has extensive automotive experience having worked for 12 years both agency and client side in the category. She is taking on the business director role at Special to lead the recently won Holden New Zealand account.
Says Daniel: “After working for multinationals my entire career, the prospect of helping grow the business of New Zealand’s leading independent agency is an exciting new challenge.”

someone threw him some rope in exchange for new business – beware the cultural damage
Hope they treat these guys very very well.
Hello again Mr Special
As I said a few working days’ ago, a big hurrah for winning your new vehicle business.
But, would either Mr Angus or the Miss Daniel know of anyone at the Ogilvy Advertising Company whom I could talk to about the spare car park space at their Parnell office? I see Mr Angus was one of the former ECD’s there – oh what joy to put a face to one of the names. So I am guessing it was his park?
My telephone calls to the Ogilvy Advertising Company keep keep getting put through to the same strange man every time – some days he is ok, other days he is like a lion with a thorn in his paw – very unpredictable, up or down, I struggle to keep up or make sense.
But, did Miss Daniel have a car park? If so, then my TAB client might be able to ‘up’ my offer to two nights at the TAB box at Eden Park, two tickets to Robbie Williams as well as dinner and drinks at Coral Reef Chinese restaurant. She likes Robbie? He will entertain you!
Thank you in anticipation
Chunkalicious!
This is great.
Firstly, because you’re both great folks.
Secondly, it exposes the circus that is Ogilvy management.
Thirdly, this is great example of the power clients have to get good people into a better situations.
Fourthly, STW must be thinking who’s next….
Fifthly, this makes a round number of 10 members of senior management that have resigned (read walked out) over the past 2 and a half years in client service, creative, digital, media and finance.
Sixthly, STW can now buy out Special Group and merge it with Ogilvy.
