Range Shot.jpgThe month long moustache growing global phenomenon Movember is in full swing. To date, the Movember community has raised over $825 million, funded over 1,000 programs in 21 countries and strives to improve the lives of men focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

Unfortunately, charities by definition, don’t have a lot of money for advertising and often are forced to rely on partners, corporates and the generosity of patrons to drum up much needed funds for the cause. But for the tenth anniversary of Movember in New Zealand, the charity and its creative agency Us&Co, turned their budgetary weakness into a strength.

If four guys from Melbourne can spark a global health movement, surely a group of guys from gods own can redefine charity locally and find creative new ways to get people to dip into their ever-tightening Richie McCaw Coin P34947CF.jpgwallets.”

Says Robert Dunne, Movember New Zealand: “Even small amounts of money can make a big difference to the foundation. So to demonstrate that every dollar given to Movember is worth so much more, the lads at Us&Co took the actual dollars from our small marketing budget, melted them down, mixed them with silver, plated them with gold Mo Dollar Coin Production.jpgand turned them into a series of one-off collectors coins, fittingly named Mo-Dollars.”

The series of coins are meticulously crafted and bear the face of influential New Zealanders including Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Jerome Kaino, Shaun Johnson, Rachel Hunter, Dick Frizzell through to heavyweight boxing sensation Joseph Parker.

Says Dunne: “It’s fantastic to add an element to Movember that connects and is accessible to every New Zealander and is certainly something that we will look at doing again in other countries in the future. It’s really humbling to have such a fantastic group of well-known New Zealanders on board to help raise crucial funds and awareness for men’s health in the country.

“With no media budget whatsoever, we immediately turned to our powerful talent network to find creative ways to onboard the biggest names in the business and ensure they wanted to take part in the campaign. The talent instantly found creative ways to raise the value of their one-off dollars donating signed All Blacks jerseys, ring-side seats, behind the scenes experiences and PlayStation gaming consoles to ensure their coins fetched top dollar.”

The nationwide campaign launched this week and will conclude at the end of the month. New Zealanders simply text the influential persons name to 2448 to donate $3 to Movember and go in the draw for a chance to win their one-off coin and their money can’t buy prize or experience.
