The Getty Images Year in Focus 2016 collection curates the year that was in stunning photographs, including the defining moments that encapsulate the global news agenda and events of 2016.

The images captured by Getty Images photographers are designed to connect people to the world through the power of pictures. From the political chaos surrounding the US election and Brexit, to the devastation and loss following the ongoing the refugee crisis, the Syrian Civil War, the racial riots in America and the Bastille Day attack in Nice, France.

Getty Images were also there for the moments that made the world smile and the moments the world celebrated. They were backstage at the Oscars and in the front row at Fashion Week. They were behind the lens capturing the excitement at the Rio Olympic Games, including that shot of Usain Bolt from 2016 Walkley award-winning photographer, Cameron Spencer.

Through the archive collections, Getty Images celebrated the lives of music greats, David Bowie and Prince, and the legendary icons, Muhammad Ali and Harper Lee. Getty Images also paid tribute to the astronauts who lost their lives 30 years ago in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.
