New Zealand ranked #3 most awarded country in the world in The Directory Big Won Rankings 2016; Colenso BBDO, Auckland ranked #1 creative agency, Y&R New Zealand ranked #2

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for McWhopper_chicago outdoor_32-SMALL.jpgThe Directory Big Won Rankings 2016 has just been released which reveal that New Zealand is ranked #3 most creative country in the world, up from #14 last year, and Colenso BBDO, Auckland is ranked #1 creative agency and Y&R New Zealand ranked #2.

 

2016 was the year of the Kiwis, with Burger King ‘McWhopper’ via Y&R New Zealand the most awarded campaign in the world in 2016 followed by DB Breweries ‘Brewtroleum’ via Colenso BBDO Auckland at #2.

DDB New Zealand made the Top 20 creative agency list at #19. In the Country rankings New Zealand took the #3 spot from Australia, which dropped to #5 this year.

This is the twelfth time in the 13 years since these rankings were first published. Ogilvy is ranked #2 followed by Leo Burnett at #3, Y&R at #4 and McCann at #5.WPP was ranked #1 Holding Company, followed by Omnicom, Publicis, IPG and Havas.

 

“The Directory Big Won is a reflection of which agencies are delivering the best work across all marketing platforms. That is important in today’s media environment, where people are consuming content in more ways than ever before,” said Patrick Collister, the author of the Directory Big Won. “Clearly, BBDO is doing this better than anyone else, and they are delivering this work year after year.  Other networks are trying to close the gap but, frankly, BBDO is still way ahead of the game.”

In the Top Twenty Executive Creative Directors category, four were from NZ including Andy Blood of Colenso ranking in at #1, Shane Bradnick of DDB at #10, Tony Clewett of FCB at #12 and Regan Grafton of FCB at #15.

Tom Paine of Y&R has ranked #1 most awarded Creative Director. Levi Slavin of Colenso has ranked #9 and Chris Schofield of DDB has ranked in at #15.

Colenso BBDO’s Matt Lawson has ranked #1 most awarded Copywriter. Tom Paine of Y&R ranked in at #2, Simon Vicars of Colenso came in at #3, Matt Williams of FCB ranked #7 and Ben Polkinghorne (former-Colenso) ranked in at #9.

Six of the world’s Top Twenty most awarded Art Directors were from NZ agencies including Andre Sallowicz (Colenso) in at #1, Tom Paine (Y&R) at #2, Brett Colliver (Colenso/DDB) at #3, Freddie Coltart (FCB) at #7, Scott Kelly (Colenso) at #12 and Gavin Siakimoto (DDB) at #13.

Jono Key from Y&R NZ was ranked #1 most awarded Planning Director, Andy McLeish of Colenso ranked in at #2 and Neville Doyle of Colenso was ranked at #4.

Four of the world’s Top Ten most awarded Chief Creative Officers were from BBDO:  Nick Worthington of Colenso BBDO at #2, David Lubars and BBDO New York’s Greg Hahn tied at #5 and Almap BBDO’s Luiz Sanchez at #8. The agency also had the two top most awarded Executive Creative Directors in the world: Andy Blood from Colenso BBDO at #1 and Bruno Prosperi from Almap BBDO at #2.

Fifty-four BBDO agencies contributed to the network’s performance, with work for 35 clients.  Twelve finished #1 in their respective markets, including Colenso BBDO in New Zealand, which was ranked the #1 most awarded agency in the world. Other country-leading agencies were Clemenger BBDO Melbourne (Australia), Almap BBDO (Brazil), AMV BBDO (UK), BBDO India, BBDO New York (U.S.), BBDO Pakistan, BBDO Portugal, BBDO Ukraine, Impact BBDO (United Arab Emirates), Pages BBDO (Dominican Republic) and 3SG BBDO (Tunisia).  Six of these agencies were ranked among the Top Ten in the World.  No other network had more than one.\\
