Adfest 2017 Lotus Award Winners: Interactive, Mobile, Print Craft, Design, Direct, Promo, Press, Outdoor, New Director and Film Craft Lotus

Adfest-2017.jpgThe winners of this year’s Interactive, Mobile, Print Craft, Design, Direct, Promo, Press, Outdoor, New Director and Film Craft Lotus were revealed tonight at the 20th Adfest, held in Pattaya, Thailand.

Adfest Grand Jury President Ted Royer, Chief Creative Officer of Droga5, said of this year’s entries: “I’ve seen ideas that are going into unchartered territory in a great way, and innovations that I’m really happy exist in the world now. It’s been especially fun judging work that emerges from local insights, yet can be appreciated by people all over the world.”

The main category winners from Australia and New Zealand are:

Interactive Lotus

Leo Burnett Melbourne took home a Gold award for Reword brand work, “Reword” in the Digital Design Application category, and Clemenger BBDO Wellington won a Gold for NZ Transport Agency, “Hello” in the Viral VDO category. This year there were 204 entries for Interactive Lotus. A total of 16 awards were announced, including 4 Gold, 8 Silver and 4 Bronze awards. No Grande Lotus was given out for the Interactive category.

Mobile Lotus

Colenso BBDO Auckland picked up a Gold award for Pedigree Dog Food, “A Dog’s Story” – entered in the Mobile Application & Other Downloadable Tools. This year Mobile Lotus received 89 entries and 17 awards, including 1 Grande Lotus, 3 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze awards.

Print Craft Lotus

Only 3 award finalist positions were announced from Australia, and Leo Burnett Sydney snapped them all up, under the category of Best Use of Illustration, for its work on Earth Hour “One Hour Can Make A Big Difference – Drought”, “Reef” and “Bush”.  The Print Craft category attracted 165 entries and 21 awards were given out, including 2 Gold, 8 Silver and 11 Bronze awards. There was no Grande award in the Print Craft category.

Design Lotus

McCann Melbourne took home a Silver award for YMCA Melbourne “YMCA Playnasium” under the Product Design: Consumer Products category. Clemenger BBDO Wellington also won Silver under the Product Design: Innovative & Sustainable Design category for its work for Kiwirail “The Conscious Crossing”. Design Lotus received 242 entries and there were a total of 29 awards given in the category, including 1 Grande, 4 Gold, 11 Silver and 13 Bronze awards.

Direct Lotus

In Australia the Gold winners are Havas Group/Red Agency, Sydney for Steve Waugh Foundation “The Riderless Bike” – Best Use of Direct Ambient: Large Scale; Leo Burnett Sydney for Samsung “Pocket Patrol” – Best Use of Mobile Marketing; and, McCann Melbourne for University of Melbourne “Made Possible by Melbourne” in the Best Integrated Direct Campaign category. New Zealand agencies to win Gold include Clemenger BBDO Wellington for NZ Transport Agency “Hello” – classed as Best Use of Film and Infomercials category, and Colenso BBDO Auckland for Anchor “X-Ray Casts” – Best Use of Direct Ambient: Small Scale. Direct Lotus received 256 entries. There were 34 awards given in this category, including a Grande Lotus, 8 Golds, 15 Silver and 10 Bronze awards.

Promo Lotus

McCann Melbourne picked up two of the six Gold Promo Lotus Awards for YMCA Victoria “YMCA Playnasium” in both the Experiential & Events and the Ambient Promotion: Large Scale categories. Another 3 Golds in the Promo category went to local agencies including McCann Sydney/DEC PR Sydney for The Hunger Project Australia “A Table to End Hunger” in Sponsorship & Partnership Campaign category; Leo Burnett Melbourne for Reword “Reword” – Best Use of Social Media category; and, McCann Melbourne for University of Melbourne “Made Possible by Melbourne” in the Best Integrated Promo Campaign category. Promo Lotus received 248 entries. There were 33 awards given in this category, including a Grande Lotus, 15 Silver and 11 Bronze awards.

Press Lotus

There were no awards handed out to Australian or New Zealand agencies under the Press Lotus category. From 127 entries in the Press category, there were 8 Press Lotus trophies awarded including 2 Silver and 4 Bronze awards. There was no Grande Lotus given out in this category.

Outdoor Lotus

Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney, Australia picked up Gold for Toyota “Landcruiser Emergency Network” in Ambient: Large Scale category and a Silver award went to BWM Denstu under the Ambient Large Scale category for Chadstone “Tailor Made Store”. 258 entries were judged in the Outdoor category at ADFEST 2017. There were 20 Outdoor Lotus trophies awarded including 1 Grande Lotus, 2 Gold, 9 Silver and 8 Bronze awards.

New Director Lotus

The Pool Collective in Sydney picked up a Bronze award under the Commissioned Spot category for its work alongside agency Marcel Sydney on OPSM campaign “Style Is Why’. There were 13 entries received for New Director Lotus including Fabulous Four this year.

Film Craft Lotus

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne/Finch Sydney received a Gold award for Transport Accident Commission “Consequences” in the Special Effects: In-Camera category. Finch also picked up a Silver Award under the Casting category for its work alongside With Collective for Qantas “Qantas Assure”. Alt VFX got two Silver awards under the Special Effects: Digital Visual Effects category for its work on Pepsi Strong “Pepsi Strong – Momotaro EP4” and FDA “FDA – Straw City”. For the Film Craft Lotus Awards, there were 287 entries, with 37 winners in the category, including 4 Gold, 18 Silver and 15 Bronze awards. No Grande Lotus is awarded in the Film Craft category.

Fabulous Four

The Fabulous Four finalists were selected from submitted scripts and this year were all based in Tokyo. Naoya Yamaguchi from Hat Inc., Tokyo was awarded a Commendation for ADFEST 2017 “The Dolls with Attitude”. Scripts are judged and four short films are selected to go into production to debut at ADFEST 2017 in front of its delegate audience. This year reflected the theme for ADFEST 2017, “20 Years of Diversity”.
