Chef’s Table has re-defined food cinematography, pushing the level of film craft in documentary. With two fresh Emmy nominations, including Best Documentary Series and Best Cinematography, the show claims its fifth and sixth nominations since premiering in 2015.

After the hugely successful “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” broke the internet, Chef’s Table creator and director David Gelb was approached to bring his unique take on food to an even broader audience. Gelb, Brian McGinn, and Andrew Fried developed the format for Netflix.

Says Gelb: “It’s no secret I have a passion for the food and culture of Asia. I look forward to connecting with awesome creatives from the region and telling bold and unique stories for brands and networks.”

The Chef’s Table collaboration began over three years ago, when director and executive producer Brian McGinn came to Australia to shoot the first episode of Chef’s Table, featuring Melbourne chef Ben Shewry. FINCH provided production service for the shoot. The show was a huge hit for Netflix, and when they re-commissioned the series, Boardwalk Pictures executive producer Andrew Fried tapped FINCH for a co-production on the Chef’s Table: France season.

David Gelb, Andrew Fried, and Brian McGinn, along with series directors Clay Jeter, Abigail Fuller, and Jimmy Goldblum are available exclusively through FINCH for TVCs and long-form branded projects in APAC.

Each director brings a distinct and revered brand of documentary storytelling and cinematic culinary aesthetic to the table – that is what has propelled Chef’s Table into the cultural zeitgeist.

Chef’s Table takes a personal look into the passion of the world’s best Chefs, from their diverse backgrounds, to the evolution and craft of their chosen cuisine, as well as their quests for sensory perfection.

Says Michael Hilliard, producer, FINCH, currently on location in Los Angeles: “Chef’s Table combines big cinematic visuals with incredible documentary access. Each director’s approach to the food photography is unique and world-class. We’ve shot everywhere from Melbourne to South Korea to Paris, and the team is excited to get back down under to do more.”

Says Corey Esse, executive producer/managing director, FINCH: “The Chef’s Table team is a stellar addition to our roster of award winning documentary storytellers. The industry’s appetite for long form productions is growing and we’re excited about partnering with the right agencies and brands to tell fresh and memorable stories.”
