Auckland City Mission’s new Christmas appeal via 99 turns Christmas waste into Christmas joy
This year, Auckland City Mission has partnered with 99 to launch its latest Christmas appeal: ‘There’s More Than Enough Christmas To Go Around’.
The appeal aims to help turn Christmas waste into Christmas joy for Aucklanders in need. ‘There’s More Than Enough Christmas To Go Around’ encourages Aucklanders to spend just a little less on the Christmas abundance and provides a guide on how that could help fellow Aucklanders, with helpful tips.
Says Alexis Sawyers, fundraising team leader at Auckland City Mission: “Every year, as Christmas time approaches, we tend to spend more on gifts then we planned and buy more food than we could ever eat. But if we can spend just a little less on gifts and food and instead put it towards helping Aucklanders in need, we can help everyone have a Merry Christmas.”
Says Mick Stalker, executive creative director, 99: “Christmas is a time that we are all very aware of our abundance. And equally, we have a stronger desire to be kind to people. If we can convert even a small percentage of gifts that are destined for landfill into meaningful donations, the world will be a better place.”
The campaign is fully integrated, thanks to support from Zenith Media and generous media partners, and includes OOH, bus backs, radio, online and TV that prompts people to donate or check out http://badgiftsforgood.co.nz.
This online store gives people the opportunity to reduce novelty gift buying this year and instead donate to a good cause. The money they spend on a rubber chicken or pet rock (or any of the other ten gifts) is donated to the Mission and they’ll receive a novelty e-card to give to the recipient instead. The e-card also includes an unboxing video for the full gift experience. Both the gifter and the giftee receive a thank you for their involvement, along with some information on how their donation will help those in need.
