As part of this collaboration, DHL Express has released an interactive digital puzzle based on a Kiwi childhood favourite, dubbed ‘Spot the Danger’ developed by DarkHorse.

The digital campaign, ‘Spot the Danger’ – which runs from February 11 to March 11, 2019 – encourages Kiwis to spot common beach hazards from a busy beach scene. Participants who are successful will enter a draw, and one lucky winner will win a cash prize of $5,000 and share it equally with a New Zealand Surf Life Saving Club of their choice this summer.

Educating Kiwis on SLSNZ’s beach safety is imperative, and engaging them via this interactive digital game is an interesting approach which not only delivers the key message but also provides the opportunity for one lucky Kiwi to support their local Surf Life Saving Club.”

Each year, New Zealand’s local Surf Life Saving Clubs help to keep over 70 Kiwi beaches safe through the long summer months, with the support of around 18,000 members including DHL Express. Last summer, the number of lives saved on patrolled beaches was up 74% as compared to 2017 – number of beach drowning incidents decreased by 26% with zero drownings between the flags.

Educating New Zealanders on beach hazards helps to reduce the number of potential beach casualties. For the 2018/19 summer season, SLSNZ have released beach safety messages surrounding how to avoid beach hazards and how to react in a dangerous situation. Partners like DHL help develop beach safety campaigns to support the distribution of these messages to the wider public.

Says Paul Dalton, CEO, Surf Life Saving New Zealand: “For 15 years, DHL Express’ support has helped to provide safer beaches for Kiwis and their families to enjoy, and we are delighted to continue this partnership. DHL Express and SLSNZ’s new digital campaign, ‘Spot the Danger’ is a fantastic interactive way to educate Kiwis on common beach hazards before they hit their local beaches. We can’t wait for New Zealanders to learn, play and stand a chance to win the cash prize, thanks to the generous support from DHL Express.”

To enter this contest, participants simply visit the DHL Express ‘Spot the Danger’ website (www.DHLSpotTheDanger.co.nz) and opt to play the game. Participants must spot five dangers on a busy beach scene within a one-minute time limit to stand a chance to win. Qualified entries will go into a draw, and one lucky winner will clinch the $5,000 prize ($2,500 for themselves and $2,500 for a New Zealand Surf Life Club of their choice).

The SLSNZ & DHL “Spot the Danger” competition will run from February 11 to March 11, 2019. The winner will be announced on the website on March 13, 2019.
