Millions of people – Aucklanders, visitors and international tourists soaking up the world’s third-ranked city for lifestyle* – can now find out what’s on, and when and where to go next at the tap of a button. Where Next serves highly targeted, real-time, preference and location-based personalised information direct to mobile.

Heart of the City marketing manager, Kate Cleaver, says the app is designed to give people the best possible experience whenever they are in Auckland’s central city and enable them to personalise their experience to make the most of their time there.

Says Cleaver: “The Where Next app is like that friend who always knows the best places to go, what’s on and what you enjoy.  It provides inspiration when you need some choices or want to know what your options are – there’s always so much going on in our city all the time – now you can get a personalised recommendation you can trust.”

The app is packed with special features and enables people to be as random or in control of its suggestions as they like. It offers users the ability to tell the app the type of suggestions they are after in any precinct.

Says Cleaver: “Whether it’s a quick beer after a gig, a bite to eat, or if you’re looking for something special to do, Where Next is a handy suggestion-based tool on the go.  It can also be used as a planning tool before heading to the city, whether you’re hitting the shops or looking for something cultural.”

Where Next is a joint venture with Colenso and award-winning Kiwi mobile marketing innovation company VMob (VML), which delivers the personal profiling, GPS location, weather, deals and geo-fencing smarts. Sush Mobile built the app and web developers Sparks were also integral to bringing Where Next to life.

Says Terry Williams-Willcock, digital creative director of Colenso/Proximity: “Over the four years I’ve lived in Auckland I have seen the Heart of the City grow and become a really vibrant place.

“When I take the family into the city centre we tend to do one thing and are then stuck for ideas of what to do next. We found this to be a common problem for Heart of the City, which helped inform our idea.  So, as indicated by the name “Where Next”, we ensured the app focused on giving people ideas of what to do and where to go next based on where they are and what they like.”
