Child_replacement (1)-thumb-400x209-246673.jpgThe biggest night on the New Zealand communications industry calendar is fast approaching, with finalists announced today for The 2017 Effie Awards, in association with TVNZ.

Colenso BBDO leads the agency pack with 24 finalists followed by FCB NZ with 22 finalists and DDB with 13.

Organised by the Commercial Communications Council (Comms Council), with key partner TVNZ, the 2017 Effie Awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony at The Langham, Auckland on 19th October.

An Effie Award is recognised globally by advertisers and agencies as the industry’s pre-eminent award and represents the pinnacle in advertising effectiveness. The Effie programme is held in 40 countries and has been run in New Zealand for 16 years.

The theme for the 2017 Effies is “You Can’t Argue With That” – recognising that great Effie-worthy campaigns will always deliver numbers, deliver results and demonstrate commercial growth.

Says Paul Head, CEO, Comms Council: “A well-planned marketing campaign has strategy with clarity of purpose, it is insight driven, has defined and provable success metrics and uses smart media thinking. The Effie Awards are our opportunity to endorse, acknowledge and demonstrate to New Zealand business that there is strategy and a clear approach to effective communications and you cant argue with that.”

A panel of 120 industry experts judged the first round in Auckland and Wellington.  They assessed entries from around the country, selecting just under 90 finalists across the 17 Effie categories. The category judging round, to determine the Bronze, Silver and Gold Effie winners, took place on 28th September attended by a further 77 senior-level judges. The selections were also made for the entry that deserves the title of ‘The Hardest Challenge’.

All Gold Effie category winners will be eligible for the Grand Effie, which is awarded to the campaign that achieved the most extraordinary commercial results for its client. The winner will also receive $100,000 in TVNZ airtime, thanks to sponsor and key partner TVNZ.

This year’s executive judging panel includes internationally-recognised, strategic planner, Chris Baker, from the UK, founder of Consult Bacon, a brand consultancy focusing on brand strategy and communications development.

Says Baker: “Brands are what connects the short-term to the long-term and – when strong – the most powerful engine for growth. It’s great to see in this year’s entries the businesses that are making this connection.

While in New Zealand, Naker will be speaking at The Annual Effectiveness Function in association with TVNZ, on 12th October,  hosted at TVNZ Auckland and also presenting a half day workshop earlier in the day. For more details on this, go to commscouncil.nz.

Tickets for the 2017 Effie Awards, in association with TVNZ, can be booked through the Comms Council website or on Eventfinder.

The Comms Council also thanks commercial partner NZME, plus important sponsors Nielsen, The Radio Bureau, Bauer Media, Adshel, and SOAR Print for making the 2017 Effie Awards possible.
