Burger King drops Colenso BBDO ~ extends Y&R’s remit to include creative, social and digital
Burger King New Zealand has moved its creative, social and digital account from Colenso BBDO to Y&R, consolidating its entire business with Y&R. Y&R NZ had previously delivered BK’s media strategy, trading and implementation services.
“We have taken the opportunity to improve communication between a variety of disciplines in order to achieve alignment and with an expectation to improve creative output. Speed is critical to our success and a one team approach will strengthen our execution,” says James Woodbridge, General Manager Marketing Burger King New Zealand.
“Burger King has a well-established heritage of doing brave work that expands outside of traditional one-way comms, both here and overseas. This approach fits perfectly with the Y&R style, where media and creative work together to develop campaigns that can’t be ignored,” says Jono Key, Managing Director, Y&R NZ.
“The New Zealand QSR market is one of the most competitive in the world, so the team are looking forward to getting down to the business of selling burgers.”
The sought-after business has sat with Colenso for eight years. Says Colenso BBDO managing director, Scott Coldham: “We’ve worked with Burger King for eight years and formed a strong and resilient partnership that’s seen us navigate the ups and downs of a very volatile category, year after year. Our partnership has seen us deliver the most successful and effective campaigns in the brand’s history in this market, so it’s disappointing they’ve decided to move on. We wish them well in their next chapter.”
The transition between agencies will be completed by mid June, 2018.

Frucor, Samsung and Burger King have all walked this year from Colenso. Fonterra and Spark must be keeping them afloat. Why aren’t we talking about all the losses Colenso has sustained lately?
Probably because people have better things to do than bag other companies?
Isn’t that what the blog is for, Judge?
Not really, But.
@TheJudge..with the ‘bigging it up with awards’ you must also accept the ‘baggin’! Come on ‘The Judge’ grow up.
